ABOUT ME | Music

Roderick "RJ" Stevenson, a young trailblazer in music, media and ministry, is the CEO/Lead Kreative Director of KreativeKoncepts Production and Design, a full-service media and marketing company based in Tampa, Florida with offices in Eastern North Carolina.

MUSICALLY GIFTED

Stevenson has also found much success in the field of music. A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, arranger, producer, and recording engineer, he has credits with countless recording artists, churches, and broadcasting companies throughout the nation. Coupling music and ministry together, Stevenson travels extensively helping to further establish music ministries at conferences and workshops across the nation.

As with many musicians and performers, it was in the church that Stevenson began and nurtured his musical abilities. By the age of nine, he'd began to show interest in piano and drums. His parents, Bishop LL Stevenson (deceased) and Mrs. Cassandra Stevenson invested in him and purchased his first piano. After only weeks of formal instruction at the local music store, RJ decided to take his studies a step further. His parents hired Angela Newsome, a musician at Elm Grove Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Pikeville, NC, where his father pastored, to come and provide weekly private lessons. In no time, he was able to provide accompaniment for worship services and was proficiently trained in reading musical notation and could memorize and replay what he heard by ear.

In the sixth grade, at the age of 10, Stevenson decided to learn the saxophone and played in school bands until graduation from high school. It was during high school that Stevenson began writing and arranging musical scores for the band, eventually becoming a section leader and then drum major. Upon graduation from high school, he attended East Carolina University and played saxophone in the Marching Pirates Band during his freshman year and played saxophone and keyboards for the university's Gospel Choir under the direction of gospel notable Debi Dixon.

By his junior year of college, Stevenson was providing musical accompaniment for singers, churches and choirs throughout the East Coast to include his hometown heroes from Rocky Mount, NC, Rev. Tiff McCarter and the Jamming for Jesus Choir and gospel industry award winning Luther Barnes!

In 2006, Stevenson released, "From the Minstrel's Heart" an instrumental project of original music. Later that year, he formed The Remnant, a praise and worship-based team of musicians and vocalists. In 2008, the group recorded their first project entitled, "The Remnant: a Live Worship Experience".

His list of industry accomplishments includes serving as a musical and marketing consultant for the acclaimed Gospel Music Workshop of America, developing all national marketing for the 2011 GMWA National Board Meeting in Norfolk, VA, and the 2011 GMWA National Convention held in Tampa, FL serving over 25,000 registrants from across the globe.

In 2017, Stevenson relocated to Tampa, FL where he now resides. In 2018 he co-produced and recorded "Go Tell It", a collection of Christmas selections with Allen Temple AME Church.
